The Raglan Watermain Extension project saw J&R commissioned by HEB and Watercare to replace the old watermain in Raglan, this watermain was past its prime and was causing issues to the water supply in Raglan due to it regularly leaking due to the pressure it was dealing with and its age.
The old watermain was predominantly Asbestos Concrete with PVC rider mains. J&R installed 649m of 250mm Watermain and 122m of 180mm. The pipelines were installed using Horizontal Directional drilling and Open Trenching which included installation of all the fittings required to make this new pipeline operational.
We drilled from 0.8m down to 2.2m during installation of this new pipeline through layers of sticky clay and sand which required a mixture of flow methodology as well as cut and plug methodology to efficiently install.
Communication with the Principal contractor and HEB was vital through the fittings installation phase as we had multiple shutdowns that required a lot of preparatory work and we had to work in a very tight timeframe, of 3 hours per shutdown to get our pipeline tied into the existing network.
We had regular meetings onsite with the Client to go over any issues we found during the project, some of which were unidentified services and the existing network being of a different configuration that what was on our supplied plans. This required our teams to collaborate closely with our client to redesign the fitting details to their satisfaction.
The job was a complete success and we have received a lot of positive feedback and praise from HEB and Watercare, to this end we have been awarded more projects from them and with hard work and great teamwork we will see the same results.
